Pilot Writing Level 2  gives you the tools to answer the dreaded question “This pilot is great!  What else do you have?” This class is a gauntlet. You’ll write a piIot in one week. Learn how to incorporate notes from higher-ups without losing your own ideas. Understand what festivals are looking for and how you can better prepare your work for festival submissions. You’ll even learn how to better identify issues like tone, clarity, pacing, and more!

Students will leave this class with:

  • Increased confidence as a writer – knowing that you can work and succeed under intense pressure
  • A deeper understanding of what it takes to be successful with a festival or contest submission or fellowship application
  • More tools to hone your voice and filter good and bad feedback
  • Individualized feedback on your strengths and weaknesses as a writer
THIS COURSE IS 6 WEEKS LONG AND MEETS ONLINE. THE DAY BEFORE THE CLASS WE WILL SEND YOU THE INSTRUCTIONS FOR LOGGING ON.

Jeffrey Thompson is a writer, magician member of the Magic Castle, and tax accountant from Los Angeles, CA.  He recently worked as the showrunner’s assistant for Mike O’Brien on Season 4 of AP Bio and won Stage 32’s 1st Annual Diversity Springboard Screenwriting Contest.
Jeffrey is a member of the Ruby LA board of directors and performs regularly at the Westside Comedy Theater and Impro Theatre.

Refund Policy

  • The Ruby LA has a no-refund policy on all classes and shows. If we need to cancel or re-schedule a class for any reason, you are entitled to take that class or classes equal to the admission price of that class. You may use your class credit for up to two years, after which time it expires.
  • The Ruby LA reserves the right to replace a course instructor, without notice, and at any time, with another equally qualified course instructor.
  • The Ruby LA also reserves the right to postpone or cancel a course if an emergency or unforeseen conflict arises. In the event of a complete cancellation, students’ tuition will be refunded or credited. Any fees incurred by students for travel, lodging, etc. will not be reimbursed by the Ruby LA.
