For this year’s third annual Ruby Queer Comedy Festival, we’re holding a stream of pre-recorded original material focused on amplifying the voices of queer comedians as well as a couple of surprise appearances.
The festival will stream on June 14th, and an archived version of the stream will be posted on the 15th.

SUBMISSION REQUIREMENTS:
We are looking for video submissions that are 3-5 minutes long.
Note: Any video submission that is over 5 minutes will not be accepted into the festival.
Performer submissions can feature any of the following:
- Stand-up
- Story-telling
- Sketches
- Songs
- Characters
- Rants
- Performance Art
- Or any funny thing you can think of to submit
We are looking for NEW ORIGINAL CONTENT to premiere at the festival. We want you to send something you’re proud of, and we’d love to get a variety of material!
We are giving preference to NEW material that hasn’t premiered elsewhere. We’re hoping that rather than submitting a sketch you’ve already posted to youtube or footage from a show that you’ve sent for a different festival submission, you’ll create something new in the next 3 weeks.
We encourage you to look to SNL at Home or the Sondheim Tribute as examples of the format we’re trying to recreate.
PLEASE REFRAIN FROM USING COPYRIGHTED MATERIAL, ESPECIALLY MUSIC, AS THOSE THINGS CAN GET THE STREAM TAKEN DOWN.
There has been plenty of material about the current state of the world, and we don’t expect you to shy away from it, but we’re hoping to create a positive and hilarious distraction from what’s going on in the world. We’re not mandating any particular kind of material as out of bounds, but the mission of the festival is certainly to be uplifting, so we’re hoping you’ll keep that in mind as well.
Submissions are due June 7th at 11:59 pm (PDT).
QUESTIONS, COMMENTS, CONCERNS
We’ll be doing a Q&A / Hangout / Cocktail hour here at 5pm (PDT) on Tuesday May 19th.
OUR TECHNOLOGY MISSION:
We discussed whether we should broadcast live, but we settled on this pre-record format as it has fewer unknown variables – and we want all of our performers to have equal opportunity to put their best foot forward.
However, if you are concerned about your video quality or have other technological concerns, we are offering technical consults to ensure you submit the best quality video you can. Please email scott@therubyla.com to set up a 5-10 minute appointment.
CHARITABLE COMMUNITY WORK:
We are requesting a $10 donation during the stream. This money will go to support the non-profit work of The Ruby LA, a 501c(3), and LGBTQ+ frontline medical workers.
