Sketch Writing 1: Stage & Screen (6 weeks)

At The Ruby LA, we prepare you to create.  In this Level 1 class, you’ll learn how to take your super funny ideas and turn them into hilarious sketch comedy with our easy-to-use Ruby LA philosophies. By the end of this class you’ll have:

Proven tools to turn your ideas into sketches
Tools for scene structure, sketch formulas, dialogue writing
Tips for kick-starting your creative process
The basic concepts for writing a sketch for stage, online video, and social media.
 How to emotionally heighten your ideas to the funniest beats
How to highlight your specific comedic voice and writing style

Instructor Becky Feldman

Becky is a writer and performer originally from New Jersey. Before moving to Los Angeles, she attended Emerson College to study film and theater. Becky has been involved in the Los Angeles improv and sketch community since 2008. She’s an alum of UCB’s Harold Night and Maude Night and served as one of the directors of UCB’s Sketch Cram for many years.
As a writer, she’s been staffed on two kids animated shows, consulted on various development projects, and recently ventured into the world of game writing.
As a performer, she’s appeared on Broad City, Brooklyn Nine-Nine, and played a fake activist in an ongoing bit for Jimmy Kimmel Live. She most recently performed her solo storytelling show called “Tight: A Night of Painfully Sexy Stories”.
She also hosts the comedy podcast “Too Stupid to Live” which reviews romance novels $5 and under.

Refund Policy:

  • The Ruby LA has a no-refund policy on all classes and shows. If we need to cancel or re-schedule a class for any reason, you are entitled to take that class or classes equal to the admission price of that class. You may use your class credit for up to two years, after which time it expires.
  • The Ruby LA reserves the right to replace a course instructor, without notice, and at any time, with another equally qualified course instructor.
  • The Ruby LA also reserves the right to postpone or cancel a course if an emergency or unforeseen conflict arises. In the event of a complete cancellation, students’ tuition will be refunded or credited. Any fees incurred by students for travel, lodging, etc. will not be reimbursed by the Ruby LA.
