Developing an Animated Character Voice (1 week only!)

Ashleigh Crystal Hairston is an actor, writer, producer, and voice actor from Seattle, WA. In 2018 she appeared in the coveted CBS Diversity Showcase as a Writer/Performer and in 2019 she was one of 11 alumni to be invited back as a Staff Writer for the showcase. She currently serves as Co-EP and Co-Story Editor on an upcoming legacy series at Nickelodeon Animation Studios. Previously, she was the Head Writer on Jessica’s Big Little World, a pre-school spinoff of the 2x NAACP, GLAAD and Emmy nominated series Craig of the Creek, where she was formerly a Staff Writer and voice of the wild-eyed kid scientist, “Wren.” It was recently announced at SDCC ’22, that Ashleigh is the new voice of  BABS BUNNY in the upcoming Warner Bros. revival, Tiny Toons: Looniversity (HBO MAX)!  More recent voiceover credits include Marvel’s Avengers Assemble: Black Panther’s Quest, Marvel Rising (Disney XD), Madagascar: A Little Wild (Netflix) and Teenage Euthanasia (Adult Swim). Ashleigh is repped by UTA, Omnipop Talent Group, and Ginsburg/Daniels/Kallis LLP.

This class meets once and does not have a class show.

This fun, introductory course is designed to teach students the basics of building a character for animation VO. Ashleigh will teach students how to: a) analyze a character breakdown for a series b) dissect copy and c) make a strong character choice with a clear POV and unique vocal quality. With nearly 10 years of experience performing and teaching improv and sketch comedy, Ashleigh will use improvisational techniques to help students get out of their head and off the paper, to create fun and meaningful characters that BOOK the job! All experience levels, welcome!

Refund Policy
  • The Ruby LA has a no-refund policy on all classes and shows. If we need to cancel or re-schedule a class for any reason, you are entitled to take that class or classes equal to the admission price of that class. You may use your class credit for up to two years, after which time it expires.
  • The Ruby LA reserves the right to replace a course instructor, without notice, and at any time, with another equally qualified course instructor.
  • The Ruby LA also reserves the right to postpone or cancel a course if an emergency or unforeseen conflict arises. In the event of a complete cancellation, students’ tuition will be refunded or credited. Any fees incurred by students for travel, lodging, etc. will not be reimbursed by the Ruby LA.
