“Faith” focuses on one woman’s journey back to the country that rejected her. Growing up in Kenya, where homosexual activity is a criminal offense, Faith had to hide her sexuality for most of her life. At the age of thirty-five, she was targeted for being a lesbian, brutally attacked at a nightclub and forced to flee the country. In this documentary, we follow Faith as she navigates this familiar yet foreign territory as a changed woman, with her wife Jenny and three-year-old son, Hayden. Through intimate interviews with family members and old friends, we learn about Faith’s past and the state of LGBTQ life in Kenya. The film explores the perception of homosexuality in Kenya, how these societal views affect an individual, and how the clashing of cultures impact Faith and Jenny, both individually and as a family. Will Faith finally be able to achieve the feeling of acceptance that she so strongly desires? Will Jenny and Hayden be able to understand where Faith comes from, and integrate themselves into Kenyan culture?
